Hello..

I have difficulty with choosing the right setting for the frontpage block order..  I want a 1 block on the first line and then 2 block and the second line.. But it seems that i can only choose 2 columns.. or a grid that gives my three blocks on the second line..

My proposal:

Why not make a table based setting wich allows you to fill in your block wishes in the admin -> panels and blocks -> frontpage -> panel tab page.

It will work at this... you can enter the numbers of blocks that you want on the first line.. each block has it own number.. like in the grid.

Then you can add a second line.. wich you again can enter how many block that you want to have displayd there.. also again with there flowup numbers..

Also.. if you have the option to merge and seperate blocks. then you can make one long block at the left wich next to it 2 lines of 4 blocks.. like in the grid option nr. 2

Also it would be great if you have the option if you could choose afther what line you want the featured article to show.. and if you want to show the comments of the article  on the FP or not.

In that way you have even more  flexibility to make your own frontpage. :)

Well.. the merging of the blocks is indeed confusing.. however.. i was thinking.. what if you, when you add a block, you can specify more lines and choose   whether it should go left or right on the grid. Because i do not think it is possible to choose center, like in option c. Or... you first choose left or right and with the position arrows you can center the block. When you center the block, the second (and maybe even the third line) will ago move in position, so that you do not get weird lay-outs.
The only thing that you can do with merged block is add them or delete them and not merge existing blocks.
I have made an setup to show what i mean :)

It could also go like this. Per line you give the value of how long that line max is (like 900 px of 100%) plus the spacing between each block.
Then every block you create on that line you choose the height (with you already have made :) ) and the width for each block. The width can be stretchable (%) or a fixed width, filled in with PX. Then if you want to add a block, but there is no room, then a error will be shown.   Also when you try to add a merged block.. and there is no room on the second or third line, there will also be an error, saying for ex. there is no room on line 2. When you want to add a merge block on a line that does not exist... there also will shown an error, that the line first has to be created. You will add the merged block on the line where it suppose to begin.

I have made an setup to show what i mean... Assuming Line 1 & 2 is setup B and 3 & 3 is setup D

When the merged block is added, you will see the option of the block, but you can not fill it in. The only place where you can fill that in, is in the first line where it appears. It would be great if the ID of the blocks are also shown.

You could say... well you can fill in the height and width on the specific block admin, but it will be easier in that way to make changes and see in one eye what you have set.
To make it more clear for the users... you can show a "life" preview. Not shown with the content, but like the first image, with empty blocks. They can enable or disable this feature in the title bar...

I hope i did not overwelm you.. i just have a lot of ideas :D and i thought... well i can tell them.. and if he likes it.. then good.... if he don't... no harm done ;)
I have like 5 custom made mods on my website :D and more to come  ;D

The the option to specify tabbed blocks  is a wonderfull idea!!! This really would make the site look great!!!!!!!

This is an interesting idea, but for now demands a full interface so it won't be included in TP v1.0.
