How do I do a full backup of the database before doing a TP update. Had a look at phpmyadmin but it looks very complicated to me. Saw the "Export" section, but there are soooo many options there I dont know what to use. Is there an easy way?

Here's a Screen Shot of what I do in a complete backup via phpmyadmin.
Make sure ALL your tables are selected in the top left box. You can also check: Add DROP TABLE and  Add IF NOT EXISTS if you want. This will do a complete backup of your Database.

OK. I tried that using my test board. Once opened on my PC it looked different to the SMF ones. SMF looks properly laid out as tables, but this one looks very compacted into just lines of info with no formatting. Is this normal? Basically, instead of a long narrow page, it looks like a very wide short one!

What are you using to view the file? Try wordpad and not notepad. Notepad doesn't seem to pick up the line breaks in certain file types.

Ah, Ok. I can see what I did wrong now.

Thanks
